Tips For Writing A Resume Fresh Outta High School

Tips For Writing A Resume Fresh Outta High SchoolAs you are finishing up your Bachelor's Degree, it's time to write a resume fresh outta high school. By doing this, you will be able to show that you have great interpersonal skills, can make the transition from a classroom setting to a professional job much easier, and will also show that you have great skills in preparing for an interview. It's important to know what you should include on your resume so here are some tips.First, you should include all of your educational level at your last school. In addition, you should also include any community or technical or professional organizations that you belong to. This is just to make sure that they can find you if they need you, but also to establish your ability to learn, adapt, and take on a lot of responsibilities. Keep in mind that resumes that are out of high school and college are normally going to have a little more information and focus on your past job experience than the resume for someone who is just graduating from college. Now, let's discuss what you do NOT want to include on your resume. This includes information such as your membership in fraternities or sororities, part-time job during high school, any national organizations, or anything of that nature. These types of fields usually require more work and documentation than you may be comfortable with, and you do not want to be on the first one they get.Writing a resume fresh outta high school also means that you have to write about yourself. You should not talk about what your friends or other people say about you. If you do, you might be considered pushy and don't like that! Instead, talk about yourself and what you can offer your future employer.Another thing that is a must include is your educational level. If you are the highest school graduate, your resume may not be seen as useful. However, if you were dropped out due to disciplinary reasons, then that may be an advantage in your favor. Make su re that the school where you got your degree is available for you to attend if you choose to go there in the future. Finally, you need to write something personal. This is important because, in order to land the job that you really want, you need to stand out from the competition. And you need to do it in a very casual way to avoid appearing too much like a flunky.Remember that this is going to be viewed by many different places, and when you choose to be well groomed and prepared, you stand a better chance at getting that new job. Lastly, remember that you should give a well thought out resume to your future employer. If you leave out the important details and leave your future employer in the dark, you could really hurt your chances of landing the job you really want.

Negin Mirsalehi How This Instagram Star Makes Thousands

Negin Mirsalehi How This Instagram Star Makes Thousands When Negin Mirsalehi, a marketing student at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in the Netherlands, thought about life after graduation, she never imagined becoming a social media influencer. Her goal was to work in marketing and was pursuing her master’s degree. One night, while she was working on her thesis, her best friend caught her off guard. You should start an Instagram, her friend told Mirsalehi. Confused, she asked, “Why?” “I have Facebook.” That was five years ago. Now, at age 29, Mirsalehi is one of Instagram’s top influencers and the CEO of what she says is a multi-million company. When Mirsalehi started her Instagram in 2012, the photo-sharing social media app was just starting to take off. Facebook had just acquired the company and its appâ€"which was only available to iPhone usersâ€"got an Android release. Mirsalehi, unaware of the blossoming beauty and fashion community on the platform, downloaded it and started posting pictures of her outfits and following others who did the same. This is her very first Instagram post in 2012. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Negin Mirsalehi (@negin_mirsalehi) on Apr 6, 2012 at 2:51am PDT “I started seeing things on Instagram and was like, ‘That’s it. I want to do that’,” Mirsalehi says. “It was right at that moment where I was making decisions for my future.” Today, Instagram’s influence on the beauty and fashion industry is tremendous. In a time when people stare at their phones more than they watch cable, brands are trying to connect. One strategy? Pay people with large followings to post a picture of themselves using or wearing their product. And you don’t need a Kylie Jenner-sized following to get paid to do this. With more than 4 million Instagram followers, Mirsalehi, who is based in Amsterdam, has a bigger audience than brands like Yves Saint Laurent, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Pantene. Because Mirsalehi has grown such a loyal audience, brands like NARS and PatBO have worked with her to promote their new lines. Some of the companies she collaborates with pay up to $20,000 per post, according to documents provided to MONEY by Mirsalehi. While that may seem like a lot of money, the majority of Mirsalehi’s posts aren’t sponsored. She says she picks around 1% of the offers she receives. Her best advice to aspiring influencers? Do the same. “You have to think about what kind of influencer you want to be and what kinds of brands you want to work,” she advises. “If you want to work with luxury brands, you have to be way more picky and you have to have courage, dare to take risks, and say no.” View this post on Instagram One of those pinch me moments. Her success on Instagram led to her biggest venture yet. In 2015, Mirsalehi and her boyfriend, Maurits Stibbeâ€"who quit his job at PwC as a strategic consultant to help his girlfriendâ€"launched Gisou, a hair care line that contains honey or bee products. The idea for the company came from Mirsalehi‘s parents: Her father is a bee farmer and her mother is a hairdresser. In fact, one of Gisou’s productsâ€"a honey-infused oilâ€"came from her mom experimenting with honey and hair. View this post on Instagram Dad ?? A post shared by Negin Mirsalehi (@negin_mirsalehi) on Mar 13, 2017 at 10:59am PDT “My dad always taught me the importance of bees,” Mirsalehi says. “Bees are really endangered and I’m trying to spread that message.” Launching this company was so important to Mirsalehi and Stibbe that the couple decided to turn down an $800,000 deal with a leading hair-care brandâ€"WWD called it the most significant deal between a brand and an influencerâ€"to focus on their new endeavor. “We had a quick thought about it but we eventually said no because I really believed in what we were going to launch,” Mirsalehi says. The two are happy with their decision. Gisou, which is completely self-funded, launched almost 2 years ago and reported revenue of $4 million this year, according to Mirsalehi, who runs the creative side of the company. Stibbe runs the day-to-day activities of the business. A representative from REVOLVE, a company that sells Gisou products, said the brand sells out almost immediately after restocking and is one of the best-sellers in its beauty section. “I think the risk was really in starting and launching Gisou. It was a big investment in ourselves, it was a bit tricky but it ended up being perfect.” View this post on Instagram Oh baby. 4 Tips On Making Quality Connections At Networking Events - Work It Daily

4 Tips On Making Quality Connections At Networking Events - Work It Daily Whether you’re the outgoing type who’s not afraid to approach anyone or more timid and shy about speaking to people you don’t know, it’s important to set goals with each networking event you attend. By setting goals, you focus on making quality connections rather than coming home with a bunch of business cards for people you may not make contact with again. RELATED: 3 Ways To Make The Most Of A Networking Event Networking events vary in size, but regardless of whether it’s 100 attendees or 1,000 attendees, it’s unlikely you’ll have the time to meet with everyone. Make the most use of your time at the event forming quality connections with these tips: 1. Set a realistic goal. Go into the networking event with the mission to make three quality connections or another number that’s realistic for you. It can be with the people sitting next to you or around the same table as you. By zoning in on simply a few people, you can build quality conversations. You want to leave the meeting having established a relationship with individuals where having a follow-up meeting after the event is possible. They should remember you and the conversation held even after the networking event has passed. 2. Be approachable and don’t be afraid to make small talk. Making contact happens in two ways â€" either you’re approached by someone or you approach someone yourself. Either way, be approachable by making eye contact and offering a smile â€" it’ll help the process. Be aware of your body language so it doesn’t come across as defensive, like when you have your arms crossed. Striking up a conversation isn’t hard, just find something in common and let that subject lead you into an introduction. For example, if you’re standing near the bar or food and there’s someone else there next to you, go ahead and make a comment like: “Oh that looks good! Have you tried it?” or “What’s that you have?” This small talk can then open up the window for you to say, “By the way, I’m [say your name]. 3. Maintain rapport. The trouble for many is figuring out how to keep the conversation going. Maintaining rapport with someone you’ve just met requires finding things you have in common and building on that. You can comment on how this is the first time you’re attending this event and find out if they’ve attended the event before or share thoughts on it. Building rapport also doesn’t have to focus on business. It can be more personable where you discuss a vacation you just came back from or a large story in the news. It can all help to keep the dialogue going as the two of you become more comfortable with one another and find common ground before directing the conversation to a specific angle to help in your job search. 4. Relax and let the conversation evolve naturally. Yes, starting up a conversation with others you don’t know can be nerve-wracking, but remember that you’re there to take in information and everyone who is attending is also looking to meet new people, so relax and let conversations evolve naturally. When you’re relaxed, it makes it easy for others to also feel relaxed and want to talk to you. This is not a competition to see who comes out with the most contacts, but making good use of your time to gain information and make contacts who will remember you and want to continue conversation with you even outside of the event. Remember to exchange contact information so it’s possible! Using your network on contacts during a job search has a high success rate compared to relying on just the job boards and recruiters, so continue to build up the network you have making quality connections at events using these tips! Want To Work In A Role With Diversity Try A Development Program

Want To Work In A Role With Diversity Try A Development ProgramWant To Work In A Role With Diversity? Try A Development Program After GraduationJennifer knew she wanted a career in marketing. It welches, after all, what she majored in and the focus of her graduate program. But she knew that people who become leaders require more than just one type of experience and knowledge to get there.Finding a job after graduation that offered that kind of diversity of experience, people, and perspectives welchesnt easy, either. Then Jen heard about Citizens Banks Leadership Development Programs.I had an undergraduate degree in marketing and I was currently pursuing my MBA, so I was looking for something that had a rotational aspect so that I could learn more about other areas of business in addition to marketing, she says. The program combined all of her passions community, learning, andof course marketing. Needless to say, she got the job.But what exactly is a leadership development program an d how did its diversity of opportunities, exposure, and people offer Jen such a bright future? We spoke to her to find out. What Is A Leadership Development Program?Citizens Banks LDPs are rotational programs for recent grads that offer the opportunity to learn from a slate of departments, managers, ratgebers, classes, and responsibilities.Jen was in the Consumer Banking Leadership Development Program, but the company also offers LDPs in technology, finance, capital markets, and more. For Jen, that meant undertaking four, three-month rotations across the Digital Marketing, Operations, Retail, and Consumer Strategy departments. It also meant being assigned an executive mentor, training alongside her cohort of program colleagues, and tackling major projects across the business. It was very different from any other entry-level roles that I was exploring, Jen says, citing the rotational aspect, the fact that you have exposure to executives right out of the gate, and the networking opportun ity even beyond the program. The goal at the end of the program was to become a better professional, with full knowledge of the company and the skills for a leadership role. How Jen and her colleagues got there, though, is the interesting part.Learning On The Job (And From Each Other)The program offered Jen (and everyone else in it) the opportunity to focus heavily on professional development and learning while still taking on challenging tasks and high-impact projects for the bank. The learning and doing mostly happened at the saatkorn time, Jen says, and it came in a variety of forms. We were assigned executive mentors at the beginning of the program, Jen explains. My mentor was Lamont Young, who is the Head of Digital Marketing here, which is ultimately the organization I ended up reporting into. So, he and I still have that mentor/mentee relationship where I can go to him for advice. There was also exposure to other executives who ran the program, which was something Jen said was uni que about the program. If you wanted to have a conversation or learn more from a senior leader, all you had to do was ask.Another major pillar of their development (and their work) was the projects to which they were assigned. One of the things that Citizens does as part of being in the development program is that you work on a project with colleagues in different development programs, she explains. It was really great to be able to work with cross-functional teams and meet new people outside of this office as well. She also got to work alongside people in her Consumer Banking LDP cohort, and those relationships turned out to be some of the strongest she made at the company. We do a lot of networking. We do volunteer events together. We have executive Lunch and Learns together, even still being out of the program for a few years, she says. Were a pretty close-knit group. When were all in the same office, well go out for drinks or lunch.Great friends also make great colleagues, Jen says Having a cohort is awesome because you have someone to rely on and well still ping each other now if were working on a project and we think that their experience would be helpful. The Program Made Her The Perfect Candidate For Her Dream Job Which Citizens Offered HerOne of the biggest issues many recent grads face is that they simply dont have enough experience to qualify for the jobs they really want. The Citizens LDP gave Jen years worth of experience and development in just 12 months. And this helped Jen make herself the perfect candidate for her dream job on the Digital Marketing team.We worked on different projects, so when I was in Digital Marketing, I created a marketing plan, which is something I was familiar with in college, she says. But in the Retail rotation, we spent time actually with the frontline colleagues, so it was great to see that experience. Its one thing to hear about challenges that the branch colleagues are facing when youre on the corporate side, but when y ou actually experience it and can interface with the customer, thats valuable insight, she says.More than being exciting, it was the perfect experience for a marketer and a business professionalshe saw both the challenges faced by people in the bank and the successes they were able to bring people.Toward the end of the program, we all interview for open jobs, Jen says. And given her experience and performance, hiring her was a no-brainer.I ended up back in Digital, which is where I really wanted to be. Im currently on the social media team and have been for about two years now, she says.Jen found her dream job and a whole new platzdeckchen of skills through the Citizens Leadership Development Program. You Shouldnt Talk About Work with Co-workers - The Muse

You Shouldnt Talk About Work with Co-workers - The MuseYou Shouldnt Talk About Work with Co-workers We spend a lot of time with the people we work with, and often in a tiny, compact space. If youre lucky, you have co-workers you actually want to spend time with outside the office- at happy hour down the street, at a team outing to a baseball game, or even at the occasional weekend meet-up.But even if you remove yourselves from the physical office, you probably find that youre still chatting about everything happening at your 9-to-5.This tendency to talk about work with your colleagues when youre leid actually there makes sense- after all, it is most likely the first thing you have in common. However, its not in your best interest to make it your main point of discussion. Heres whyYoull Get Yourself Worked Up for NothingLets be honest. Often when were talking to our fellow employees about work, it quickly spirals in a negative direction. Especially when alcohol gets involved. And the minute it takes that turn, the result of the conversation tends to be destructive. What starts out as a simple So, how do you like working with Ted? becomes Well, I like Ted as a person, but he writes the most annoying emails, and Did you notice he leaves early single day? All the dangers of gossiping about your colleagues aside, suddenly youve made Ted the focus of your happy hour- which might feel good in the moment, but wont leave you feeling great when you walk away and realized you trash-talked someone for an hour. And, if it doesnt turn into a rant about an individual, then perhaps its about the company overall. Before you know it, you and your cube-mate think you can run the business better than those currently in charge, and you spend the remainder of the night discussing everything thats wrong and how you would fix it. While you may have some decent suggestions on how to improve things, youre not going to accomplish anything in this manner. Your half-off beer may make you fe el like youre on top of the world, but it would be much more effective to save your company overhaul recommendations for your next meeting with your manager. All this negative conversation does is exacerbate any adverse feelings you may already have about your job since youre highly unlikely to say or do anything positive or actionable in the moment. Work can be hard enough without this- no need to make it worse. Youre mora Than Your Job- and So Is Your ColleagueBelieve it or not, that person you bump into by the coffee station every day is so much more than the guy who sits a few cubes away and sends you an email every so often (or 10 times a day). He has a life away from his desk and also had an identity prior to landing this gig. When we spend all of our time gabbing about work, we fail to binnensee our colleagues as real people, just like us. Getting to know Ted for who he is- in addition to being a guy who manages product in the marketing department- will not only be so much mo re interesting, but will also help you understand him more as a co-worker. For example, did you know Ted has two kids and is responsible for picking them up from daycare every day (hence why he always runs out of the office at 545 on the dot)? Turns out he wasnt being rude when he told you that he would discuss that email with you tomorrow, he was running late to grab his daughters. Its Human Beings 101 The more you know about a person, the better youll understand his motivations- and the better you understand those, the easier it will be to work with him. Or, at least make small talk in the kitchen. Not to mention, all that non-work convo can also help broaden your world- the person you see in the elevator every day may have the coolest interests ever. And before you know it, you have a new passion all because she introduced you to it. Think about it You never wouldve discovered your love for podcasts had you spent every second venting about Ted.While talking about work may be cath artic at times, its ultimately not beneficial. So next time you and fellow team members hang out outside of work, try talking about something else. And, if worse comes to worst and you need a fallback topic of conversation, its okay to start with the weather. Especially during this balmy December.Photo of blah blah notes courtesy of Shutterstock.
