This is why FOMO is actually completely ok to feel - Debut This post is written by a member of the Debut Student Publisher Network. Read on for  Christines thoughts on the  millennial plague that affects us all: FOMO. Otherwise known as the fear of missing out. You know. Its that niggling feeling that everyones going to the same party and youre not invited, or youre not feeling up for going. FOMO is the plague that looms over adult life, and yeah, it sucks. Not only will it potentially haunt you through  your first steps to  adulthood, but also it is perpetuated by your peers. Youve probably heard things like,  Oh, come on, its ONE party, you should definitely come! or Dont be such a party pooper. The fear of missing out can be awful.  But Im here to tell you why its totally okay. 1. Because  peer pressure is silly What makes  FOMO so effectively terrible is that it relies on The Power of Peer Pressure. FOMO comes from the idea that you are not having fun but everyone else is. Youd be home, snuggled up, when suddenly you think, Oh no why am I  at home by myself?  Why did you turn down the idea of fun? Heres the thing. You shouldnt let other people tell you what is fun and what isnt. And if youve said no to going to a party,  they should respect that decision. 2.  Because expectations dont necessary mirror reality FOMO  makes you  feel bad because you see and/or hear proof of other people having fun at thinsg  you didnt go to. Keep this in mind: youre only shown those fun parts. Just because these people had fun at this One Thing you didnt go to doesnt mean you would have. Heck, it doesnt even mean  they had as much fun as theyve portrayed. An Instagram post does not a party make, my friend. 3. Because fun comes in many shapes and sizes What you find fun might not be what other people find fun and vice versa. For example, Im really not a party person, but many  have tried to convince me to hit da  clubz.  Deep down,  I know its not my thing. Having said that, I still felt left out and awkward when the people around me told me the  stories about what they got up to. The FOMO was  so real, but in the end I was grateful for it; I looked at why I felt that way and what part of their stories I found myself wanting to be in. Feeling FOMO helps you figure out what you find fun and what you dont, and what I ended up doing was reaching a compromise that suited me. 4. Because  everyone feels it Talk to anyone you know. Ask them, Hey, was there ever a time you felt like you were missing out on fun stuff? Spoiler alert: they will all say yes. FOMO is perpetuated by the idea that youre the only person in the universe who is not having fun, and the moment you realise that everyones going to feel FOMO at some point in their lives, its super comforting. 5. Because recharging is super healthy Look, missing one party and taking the time to just recharge and breathe is super important. It is totally okay to not want to go out and be social and spend energy in an environment that is super draining occasionally. Make like a KitKat and take a break, man. Youll be grateful for it when everyone else has hangovers the next day. Youd have spent a relaxing night in (especially if you spend it listening to one of our night in playlists). 6. Because therell probably be another chance Sometimes you get FOMO when theres a party that screams, Im a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!But to be perfectly clear, there is a distinctly  high probability that there will be another party to go to if you regret not being there for the one you missed. Its up to you to figure out if you want to act on that FOMO or not, and youll most likely have the chance to do so, so dont sweat it. 7. Because youve made your decision Even if you decide after all of this to definitely stay in and never go to another party again, or if you decide to use your FOMO to encourage yourself not to miss out the next time you can, its your decision what you want to do with your time. Dont worry so much about what other people are doing or saying, because your choice is yours and FOMO is okay either way. Noticing the Tightrope The Spaces in Between by Kecky My husband came home Thursday night, a few minutes after I wrote this post, despite the late hour we sat on the couch talked listened. I told him why Ive been feeling heavy lately, laying my fears out on the table allowing myself to cry be held. He said everything in the husband handbook very sweetly securely: I believe in you. This is where you belong. Youre so, so good at this. Its not a fluke. Well be OK. Im behind you. Thats what she said. And they were all comforting, sweet words that made me feel almost invincible. But then he said something Ive never heard before, that made me smile allow the trust to sit into my heart: Babe, you seem to walk a tightrope every day. And sometimes,   you stop yourself look down say, Holy crapballs! Im walking on a tightrope! And sometimes it scares you you stop walking for a bit, but youre the only person Ive known who has always, always, always started walking the tightrope again. Todays just a day that youre noticing the tightrope how scary it is.   And tomorrow, I know youll start walking again. Im the smartest woman for marrying this man.

It's important to know what you should include on your resume so here are some tips.First, you should include all of your educational level at your last school. In addition, you should also include any community or technical or professional organizations that you belong to. This is just to make sure that they can find you if they need you, but also to establish your ability to learn, adapt, and take on a lot of responsibilities. Keep in mind that resumes that are out of high school and college are normally going to have a little more information and focus on your past job experience than the resume for someone who is just graduating from college.Now, let's discuss what you do NOT want to include on your resume. This includes information such as your membership in fraternities or sororities, part-time job during high school, any national organizations, or anything of that nature. These types of fields usually require more work and documentation than you may be comfortable with, and you do not want to be on the first one they get.Writing a resume fresh outta high school also means that you have to write about yourself. You should not talk about what your friends or other people say about you. If you do, you might be considered pushy and don't like that! Instead, talk about yourself and what you can offer your future employer.Another thing that is a must include is your educational level. If you are the highest school graduate, your resume may not be seen as useful. However, if you were dropped out due to disciplinary reasons, then that may be an advantage in your favor. Make su re that the school where you got your degree is available for you to attend if you choose to go there in the future.Finally, you need to write something personal. This is important because, in order to land the job that you really want, you need to stand out from the competition. And you need to do it in a very casual way to avoid appearing too much like a flunky.Remember that this is going to be viewed by many different places, and when you choose to be well groomed and prepared, you stand a better chance at getting that new job. Lastly, remember that you should give a well thought out resume to your future employer. Negin Mirsalehi How This Instagram Star Makes Thousands When Negin Mirsalehi, a marketing student at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in the Netherlands, thought about life after graduation, she never imagined becoming a social media influencer. Her goal was to work in marketing and was pursuing her master’s degree. One night, while she was working on her thesis, her best friend caught her off guard. You should start an Instagram, her friend told Mirsalehi. Confused, she asked, “Why?” “I have Facebook.” That was five years ago. Now, at age 29, Mirsalehi is one of Instagram’s top influencers and the CEO of what she says is a multi-million company. When Mirsalehi started her Instagram in 2012, the photo-sharing social media app was just starting to take off. Facebook had just acquired the company and its appâ€"which was only available to iPhone usersâ€"got an Android release. Mirsalehi, unaware of the blossoming beauty and fashion community on the platform, downloaded it and started posting pictures of her outfits and following others who did the same. This is her very first Instagram post in 2012. 4 Tips On Making Quality Connections At Networking Events - Work It Daily Whether you’re the outgoing type who’s not afraid to approach anyone or more timid and shy about speaking to people you don’t know, it’s important to set goals with each networking event you attend. By setting goals, you focus on making quality connections rather than coming home with a bunch of business cards for people you may not make contact with again. RELATED: 3 Ways To Make The Most Of A Networking Event Networking events vary in size, but regardless of whether it’s 100 attendees or 1,000 attendees, it’s unlikely you’ll have the time to meet with everyone. Make the most use of your time at the event forming quality connections with these tips: 1. Set a realistic goal. Go into the networking event with the mission to make three quality connections or another number that’s realistic for you. It can be with the people sitting next to you or around the same table as you. By zoning in on simply a few people, you can build quality conversations. You want to leave the meeting having established a relationship with individuals where having a follow-up meeting after the event is possible. They should remember you and the conversation held even after the networking event has passed. 2. Be approachable and don’t be afraid to make small talk. Making contact happens in two ways â€" either you’re approached by someone or you approach someone yourself. Either way, be approachable by making eye contact and offering a smile â€" it’ll help the process. Be aware of your body language so it doesn’t come across as defensive, like when you have your arms crossed. Striking up a conversation isn’t hard, just find something in common and let that subject lead you into an introduction. For example, if you’re standing near the bar or food and there’s someone else there next to you, go ahead and make a comment like: “Oh that looks good! Have you tried it?” or “What’s that you have?” This small talk can then open up the window for you to say, “By the way, I’m [say your name]. 3. Maintain rapport. The trouble for many is figuring out how to keep the conversation going. Maintaining rapport with someone you’ve just met requires finding things you have in common and building on that. You can comment on how this is the first time you’re attending this event and find out if they’ve attended the event before or share thoughts on it. Building rapport also doesn’t have to focus on business. It can be more personable where you discuss a vacation you just came back from or a large story in the news. It can all help to keep the dialogue going as the two of you become more comfortable with one another and find common ground before directing the conversation to a specific angle to help in your job search. 4. Relax and let the conversation evolve naturally. Yes, starting up a conversation with others you don’t know can be nerve-wracking, but remember that you’re there to take in information and everyone who is attending is also looking to meet new people, so relax and let conversations evolve naturally. When you’re relaxed, it makes it easy for others to also feel relaxed and want to talk to you. This is not a competition to see who comes out with the most contacts, but making good use of your time to gain information and make contacts who will remember you and want to continue conversation with you even outside of the event. Remember to exchange contact information so it’s possible! Using your network on contacts during a job search has a high success rate compared to relying on just the job boards and recruiters, so continue to build up the network you have making quality connections at events using these tips!
